- I had the chance of visiting Buenos Aires for work and visit the city for 2 days so I will briefly explain some options to explore
- I used public buses and trains, very cheap and quite frequent
1) Southeastern area - Places visited:
- 1a) La Boca-Caminito & Boca Juniors stadium
- 1b) Lezama park
- 1c) San Telmo
- 1d) Puerto Madero
- 1e) Casa Rosada - Florida street - The Obelisk
- 1f) The Monument Tower
- 2a) Tigre
- 2b) San Isidro
- 2c) La Monumental (River Plate stadium)
- 2d) Regatas Lake
1a) La Boca-Caminito & Boca Juniors stadium:
- By far the area I liked the most in Buenos Aires, very touristic but colourful and interesting
- Caminito street is probably the most visited street in the area
- Here you area a few pictures in La Boca
- In La Boca you can find Boca Juniors stadium, "La Bombonera"
- I was not lucky enough to have a match at that time, and even tickets are hard to get, but at least I could visit one of the most important stadiums of Argentinian football
- The 1h tour around the stadium costs 240 Argentinian pesos, approx. €10 and I could visit the museum and trophy zone, the football court itself and the changing rooms
- Lezama park looked great on a Sunday afternoon, full of people, sports practised and small street shops
- In this park you can find the National History Museum if you are interested but I did not have time to explore
1c) San Telmo
- Dorrego square is the place I liked the most in San Telmo, with many terraces and music live shows including tango of course
- There is an antiques fair on Sundays that I was lucky to enjoy
- Another of the most popular areas in Buenos Aires along the river
1e) Casa Rosada - Florida street - The Obelisk:
1f) The Monument Tower
2) Northwestern area - Places visited:
- Casa Rosada is the Government Palace in Argentina, known as pink house for its colour
- Florida street is a pedestrian area and most important commercial street in the city, with frequent tango performances
- The Obelisk, built in 1936 commemorating 4 centuries from Buenos Aires foundation by Pedro Mendoza, and located in the Republic square, is an iconic sight in downtown as well
1f) The Monument Tower
- Formerly Tower of the English, it is located in Retiro and was built to commemorate 100 years from the Revolution of 1810
- In terms of food, I was lucky to be taken to "Las Talas de Entrerriano", a restaurant in the outskirts of Buenos Aires with amazing Argentinian meat
2) Northwestern area - Places visited:
- Popular day visit from Buenos Aires, 1 hour by train, Tigre is a nice peaceful town surrounded by rivers with a delta of plenty of tiny islands
- However most tours and boats to visit the delta start at midday but I arrived early morning and did not have enough time
- As one of the most ancient areas in Argentina, San Isidro offers colonial architecture and urbanism as well as nice green areas and commercial streets
- Near Nunez train station you can visit River Plate stadium and join a 45 minute tour for $7 (I prefered Boca Juniors)
- However, 10 minutes walking distance from the stadium there is an amazing local meat restaurant which I really recommend: Restaurante La Esquina (Minones with Sucre street). Quality of the meat, prices and atmosphere are great
- A huge park in the city to practice sports, take the family or simply relax
- I am looking forward to have a proper holiday in Argentina but till now I can only write a bit about Buenos Aires
- Hopefully this info is useful :)
